A teacher named Wang Qingyou from Jinan, Shandong, has shared a remedy for gout. Unfortunately, his QQ and phone number were not recorded at the time, so today I am organizing and publishing this information for everyone's reference. In 1981, I was hospitalized due to swelling and redness in my left foot, followed by similar symptoms in my right foot. Traditional Chinese medicine diagnosed it as erysipelas. After taking Chinese herbal medicine and receiving penicillin injections for over two months, the swelling subsided, and I was discharged. Six or seven years later, both feet swelled again, and I was hospitalized for another two months before the swelling went down. After that, the frequency of swelling and redness in my feet increased, with shorter intervals between episodes. By 2007, I was experiencing three episodes a year, each requiring over two months to recover before I could get out of bed. I was hospitalized 13 times at provincial-level hospitals for this condition. It wasn’t until 1994 that I was finally diagnosed with gout at a provincial hospital, but even then, no effective treatment was available. In the autumn of 2007, during a gout flare-up, a relative brought me two boxes of pickled bellflower root (桔梗小菜). I enjoyed eating it and had a little every day. A few days later, I noticed that the pain and swelling in my feet had lessened. After about ten days of eating the pickled bellflower root, I was able to walk again. In the past, it would take me over two months to recover from a gout episode, but this time, I recovered in less than half a month. From this, I concluded that pickled bellflower root could treat gout. Since then, I have eaten it every day, consuming about 50 grams of commercially available pickled bellflower root daily. In the first six months of eating the pickled bellflower root, the joints that had previously been affected would occasionally experience mild swelling and pain, but these symptoms would disappear within a week. After two or three recurrences in the same area, the gout never returned. This pattern occurred sequentially in my toes, ankles, knees, hips, lumbar spine, and shoulders. The scapula has appeared. After consuming bellflower side dishes for three months, I was amazed to find that my right knee joint, which had previously prevented me from climbing stairs, had been repaired. I was able to climb six floors in one go. Having not suffered from gout for two or three years, I became bolder and often indulged in seafood and the like to satisfy my cravings, without any adverse effects. From then on, I basically stopped avoiding certain foods. However, three years and eight months after treating my gout with bellflower, I had another gout attack. But this time, the swelling and pain in my feet were much milder, and the duration was shorter, resolving in just half a month. Since that episode, I have not had another gout attack for over three years. I have been continuously eating bellflower side dishes and have been enjoying the quality of life and dietary pleasures of a normal person. My experience with using bellflower to treat gout: 1. Hospital treatments for gout have not yet surpassed the efficacy of bellflower. 2. Eating bellflower not only reduces swelling and alleviates pain but also clears gout stones from the affected joints, eliminating the root cause of joint swelling and repairing the damaged joints. 3. Due to the second point, long-term consumption of bellflower allows for controlled indulgence without triggering gout attacks, enabling gout patients to regain a normal quality of life. 4. Bellflower does not lower uric acid levels; it is still necessary to take uric acid-lowering medication under a doctor's guidance based on test results (careful selection of uric acid-lowering drugs is required, and liver and kidney function should be monitored during medication). I hope that after Teacher Wang sees the publication of the folk remedy you contributed, you will promptly contact Hu Bing and share your QQ with everyone, so that those who have questions can consult you. Thank you!
